Places to relax & unwind

There's no shortage of attractions to keep you entertained during your stay in Harrogate. Whether you want to marvel at fabulous works of art or potter around antique shops, or simply relax and unwind in beautiful surroundings, there's something for everyone. Shown below are just some of the many places you might like to visit during your stay.

Turkish baths and health spa
Looking for an experience that combines exhilaration, euphoria, and total relaxation? Then a trip to the Turkish Baths and Health Spa sounds like your cup of tea. Described as a leisure experience with a unique Turkish feel, it is recommended that you allow at least one and a half hours in order to get the maximum benefit from the Turkish Baths. All you need to take along with you is your swimwear and personal toiletries as towels are provided free of charge.

After taking a shower, visit the Steam Room where high humidity, made gently fragrant with cleansing Eucalyptus, opens pores, penetrates the respiratory system and eases tense muscles. Then maybe take a bracing dip in the Plunge Pool. Towel down and work your way up through the three inter-connecting Hot Room Chambers - Tepidarium (warm), the Calidarium (hot), and the Laconium (hottest) allowing the warmth to continue its therapeutic effect on skin and musculature.

Royal pump rooms museum
A two minute walk from The Lawrance lies the majestic Royal Pump Rooms Museum which boasts the strongest sulphur wells anywhere in Europe. In its heyday, more than 15,000 people used to travel to Harrogate every summer to partake of the health promoting properties of its water. Don't forget to taste the water for yourself, it's an unforgettable experience - and it might just do you some good! You can also discover Harrogate's connection to Russian royalty and what politicians and famous writers of the 19th and 20th century thought of their visits. Charles Dickens described Harrogate as the 'queerest place with the strangest people leading the oddest lives'!

The Mercer Art Gallery
The Mercer Art Gallery is home to the region's fine art collection containing some 2000 works of art, mainly from the 19th and 20th centuries. The gallery has two spaces, the Main Gallery and the smaller North Gallery. The changing exhibition programme for both galleries ranges from national touring exhibitions of painting, photography, sculpture and crafts to exhibitions from the permanent collections to displays by local artists.
